I Suppose it Could Be Worse – Part 2

Adventures in Family Life, Funny Moments, I am a Learner 1 Comment »

What a day this has been. Every indication seemed to assure me of a smooth day ahead. I was like a sailor observing a clear horizon. And then it happened.

Before I disclose any information about the said incident, let me tell you that I am sitting in my neighbor’s car using his laptop to write this post. Unusual? Yes it is. I am writing this post in my neighbor’s car because of what happened.

We were scheduled to go to my neice’s birthday party today, and things were being loaded into the Suburban. I was outside talking with Kane about doing 100 pushups, and CC, standing at the door, asked if we were all ready to go, to which I replied, “Yes”. Then it happened.

She shut the door with both sets of keys in the house. And the door was locked.

So many things ran through my mind. But the one thing I keep coming back to is that I should have followed through on that endeavor to make more copies of our house and car keys in the event that we become locked out.

So here I sit. Blogging about my stupidity. What’s new?

At the risk of being seen as extremely random, I would like to share a thought that popped into my head late last night. Or maybe it was early this morning. Regardless of when it was that this thought swirled through my mind, I need to share it. I am interested to see if this is a universal experience, or just some quirky thing that only happens to me. Right now, before he has even heard what it is, Kane is saying, “It only happens to you, Brad!”

I was remembering that at various times in my life, I have been awakened by my alarm, only to find that I have been sleeping on top of my arms, and that the use of them is temporarily discontinued. If you’ve ever experienced this, you may agree that it is quite a humorous condition to be in. You’d like to turn off the alarm, and keep sleeping a bit more, but the appendages that are usually used to press the snooze button are incapacitated! An interesting struggle usually ensues. For about 20 seconds, you’re flopping your arms in the general direction of the alarm. At about the end of the said 20 seconds, you are regaining the control of your arms, and are no longer in the mood to snooze. The struggle has left you less dazed than you usually are at 5:30 am.

This is all very intriguing! As I write this, I find myself wishing that I could have this whole episode on video.

I sincerely hope that I am not the only one who has experienced this!

Now That’s Funny

One of the funniest memories I have of high school is one I did not witness, but only heard of.

An old friend whom I’ve known since middle school was at the reunion, and he reminded me of an extremely dangerous (although amusing) encounter that he had at about age 13.

While Mike was in Yellowstone Park (I think), he and his dad happened upon an American Bison. It occurred to Mike’s dad that they had serendipitously stumbled upon quite a nice picture moment.

Mike was encouraged by his father to “move closer” to the beast so that he could capture the moment with a Polaroid. All went well…AT FIRST. But after a few moments, Mike noticed that the mucous dripping from the bison’s nostrils increased in volume, some grunting was emitted, and the animal’s hooves began to scrape the ground, just as he reached out his hand to pet the creature.

Just as the animal began to charge, and Mike began to run, Mike’s dad pressed the button on the wonderful contraption known as the instant camera, and a wonderful photo as well as a wonderful memory was created. I consider myself privileged to have been one of Mike’s friends who saw the said photo. I just hope his dad kept the snapshot and scanned it!

Thanks to Mike for reenacting that exciting moment.
